St. Vincent for Rolling Stone Feb 2014
"It is the phenomenon sometimes called “alienation from self.” In its advanced stages, we no longer answer the telephone, because someone might want something; that we could say no without drowning in self-reproach is an idea alien to this game. Every encounter demands too much, tears the nerves, drains the will, and the specter of something as small as an unanswered letter arouses such disproportionate guilt that answering it becomes out of the question. To assign unanswered letters their proper weight, to free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves—there lies the great, the singular power of self-respect. Without it, one eventually discovers the final turn of the screw: one runs away to find oneself, and finds no one at home."

Time and Tide
I haven’t been here in a very long time, I have found myself crawling back to Tumblr in the hope of documenting the process of buying, transforming and ultimately living in my new home. I am going to do it here: http://veratrumalbum.tumblr.com/ if you are at all interested in humouring me.
Are you still doing the Wordsworth job?
Hello! This might be a really old ask, so I’m sorry if that’s the case. I haven’t been on Tumblr much recently. Yes I am still working at the Wordsworth Trust, but only for a couple more months unfortunately, as my internship ends in January.
Dramatic haircut has been had (by my very conservative hair standards). This is mostly because I cannot deal with untangling my hair from a scarf ever again.
